What is DGHT?

The "Deutsche Gesellschaft für Herpetologie und Terrarienkunde e.V. (DGHT)", meaning German Society for Herpetology and Herpetoculture, was founded in 1964 as a successor of the group called "Salamander" which originates from the year 1918. As the name implies, the DGHT covers non-professionals and professionals in herpetology and herpetoculture within a single organisation, thus giving our society its particular strength. Our members work with amphibians and reptiles as it concerns research and husbandry, as well as conservation of species and their habitats.

Women in Herpetology DGHT and SALAMANDRA are in support of the Global Women in Herpetology project led by Dr. Umilaela Arifin, Dr. Itzue W. Caviedes Solis and Dr. Sinlan Poo. This project has just released a book Women in Herpetology: 50 Stories from Around the World that unveils the inspiring journeys of 50 women from 50 countries and regions who have dedicated their lives to studying amphibians and reptiles. All profits will be used to establish a scholarship for students to attend conferences.
